Does it really matter what church you attend? What difference does it make if you are a Baptist, or an Episcopalian, or a Catholic, or a Lutheran, or a Methodist? The Bible teaches that the church you attend is VERY important because once you are saved, God expects you as a Christian to follow His Word and to be obedient to what He says. Therefore you need to be in a church that teaches and preaches the doctrines of the Word of God correctly, so you can grow as a Christian. In this book, Pastor Hammett gives three reasons or proofs why he believes that everyone who is saved ought to be a Baptist. Using Scriptural Truth, Historical Truth, and Doctrinal Truth, he argues why he believes that the church Jesus started was, in all ways other than maybe name, a Baptist church. If the church that Jesus Christ started was a Baptist church, then the church that you ought to belong to as a Christian ought to be a Baptist church.

As one who has studied Baptist History I must say I spent more time laughing at this booklet than actually learning from it. The author makes wild claims such as "John the Baptist" was the founder of the Baptist Church, and also in his section where he details what other churches believe he shows that he doesn't understand history nor the theology of other denominations. This book is wild, and fanciful, I would not recommend it to anyone who is wanting to learn Baptist history and distinctives.

Why I Am a Baptist edition by Douglas Hammett Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Great book for clear, concise information on the Baptist Distinctives. Easy to read and understand. Invaluable resource for your study of the Baptist faith.
Clear and Concise. A simple read. Hits at the heart of the issues concerning Baptist Doctrine and Biblical Faith and Practice. A great gift for all your friends that need to consider the claims of Bible Doctrine.
If you are looking for why to be a Baptist then this is a great resource. The book is a fantastic read and the author is amazing!
The author started out in life as a Catholic and in his early adult years became a Baptist. The book explains why he is a Baptist and is a great read to both Christian and non-Christian readers. The question "Why am I a _______" is a great question for any person to ask and know about their self. Loved the book. Love the author.
This book is a good overview of the key points of Baptist doctrine and history. Based on a series of messages by the author, the content is written to make the issues understandable to the average person in the pew. (The author has a more thorough Baptist History textbook, also available through Challenge Press.)
The Author seems to think of himself as a theologian and a historian but is rather poor at both. He starts the book with how important it is to belong to a baptist church. According to him the Baptists are the only ones that have spiritual, historical and doctrinal truth. Well..this bold statement falls flat right from the beginning. The author has very little knowledge of Holy Scripture, Church history or Christian doctrine. He is by all accounts a neophyte. His Spititual Truths are infantile and poorly argued and are not objectively true. They reek of ignorance and prejudicial thought. His Historical Truths come from some backwoods history book that no credible historian would find true. His doctrinal truths are pure fantasy. The book reminds me of the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax collector. The author is just as self righteous as the Pharisee...'O God I thank you that I am not like the rest of those christians..I go to the right Baptist Church." Please get over it..The Body of Christ, His Church, is made up of all Christians, here on earth,in heaven and anywhere in between..It is yes, Universal or may I say Catholic...call yourself what you like but objectively that is the truth...It is time to become more like the tax collector..."O God be merciful to me a sinner."
